Explore The Big World Of Internet Usage

The Internet is a collection of thousands of networks and it is simply the largest network system. No one owns the internet but proper internet usage is our collective responsibility as users.

The internet has no central headquarters and no comprehensive index to tell what information is offered. It was originally developed by the U.S. government to connect libraries, campuses, research labs, and government agencies. The Internet is commonly used for e-mail, research, remote access with other computers, exchanging information through chat or instant messaging, file sharing and VoIP phone service among others.

One of the immediate benefits of the Internet is an improvement in communication through the use of Electronic mail or e-mail, which is the manner of sending a message directly from one computer to another. The message is stored until the recipient chooses to read or receive it.

The advantages of using e-mail aside of course from the swiftness of the communication, include the reduction of paper use, does not interrupt meetings the way a ringing phone does, and it can reach many people with a single message sending alone.

E-mail is a great help for people who want to be connected even though they live in different time zones because it does not require both participants to be present at the time of transmission. The email sender is responsible for the transmission of quality messages. Then sender should not use the Internet to spread out malicious messages, send unsolicited commercial junk mail or spam, and executable file with virus. The recipient is responsible for filtering the messages and he can either save or delete his messages.

The Internet offers vast opportunities for users who are hungry for knowledge and information. A businessman can open a remote desktop session into his office computer using a secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection via internet. He can access his normal files and data, e-mail, and other applications while he is in a business trip or on vacation.

Internet users are responsible for the adjustment of security, authentication, and encryption technologies required in his remote access so that others will not be able to access his files and data.

Another advantage brought about by the Internet is the Voice over IP or VoIP (sometimes misspelt VOPI) where IP stands for Internet Protocol. If you want to be constantly in touch with your business of personal contacts all over the world then VoIP is the answer. VoIP voice quality is often equal to traditional calls but it can still vary from call to call and according to provider.

VoIP can be a practical alternative to traditional telephones where long distance call is more inexpensive. The only problem with VoIP is its reliability considering that it only works with an Internet connection and power supply of course.

Internet can be connected to your home either through dial-up, landline broadband, WI-FI (wireless fidelity), satellite and 3G technology through cell phones. The Internet can also be accessed through internet cafes or public places such as airport, coffee shops, hotels and other public internet kiosk. Some establishments provide wireless internet connections, just look for establishments with the “hotspot” sign.

In a hotspot area, users can bring their wireless-enabled devices such as PDA or laptop to access the internet for free or fee-based depending on establishment policy. The Internet can be found anywhere but not users are geared for proper Internet usage. Most countries however, have already enacted laws to penalize improper Internet use.
